Summer is right around the corner, and you know what that means: BEACH SEASON! We know how hard it is to get into shape especially with all the temptations of fast food, as well as building up the motivation to exercise in this humid Ohio weather. However, Shape Magazine has some great food tips to make that beach body diet a little more manageable. Check out the BEACH food recommendations below:
B – Body Buffers: These are going to be any of your lean proteins. With all the working out you’re going to be doing, you need lean protein to help your muscles recover. Now, we aren’t saying go get your favorite double quarter pounder with cheese, but rather focus on things like chicken, tuna, salmon, or nonfat Greek yogurt.
E – Everyday Energizers: I’m sure you love drinking that sugary, concentrated Redbull or Monster Energy drink every morning or as your pick-me-up during the 3:00 afternoon crash. However, all of these artificial sugars and boatloads of caffeine is ultimately what leads to your daily headaches and lethargic feelings after a long day of work. The best way to fuel your body when you start feeling that crash is by eating a variety of fruit. Some of our favorites include berries, pineapples, bananas, and grapes. It’s extremely easy to make a fruit salad and pick from it here and there throughout the day. Try it!
A – All-you-can-eat-Anchors: Fruits are always going to be an easy snack and they’re delicious. Fruits, as delicious as they are, don’t necessarily cut it in terms of giving you that sustained full feeling. This is where all of those green veggies that you never wanted to eat as a child come into play. Romaine lettuce, spinach, cucumbers, peppers, and carrots are high in all of your daily nutrients but also act as a great snack. Eating a bag of carrots over a Snickers bar will do you wonders in fighting that hunger and cutting fat!
C – Crucial Carbs: Believe us, we love our carbs just as much as you do, yet this is the hardest part to cut out when prepping for beach season. You don’t necessarily have to drastically cut everything out, but instead eat the right kinds of carbs. Things like quinoa, oatmeal, and 100% whole-grain pasta or bread are great ways to still get your carb fix in, without feeling overly guilty.
H – Herbs & Spices: This is the best part of the BEACH suggestions. Everyone tends to get caught up in eating clean which is usually associated with bland flavors considering you can’t pile ranch dressing on your plate. However, herbs & spices are a great way to add that great seasoning without sacrificing any healthy aspects of your meal. Cinnamon, cayenne pepper, cumin, and garlic powder are some of the top spices we use on chicken and veggies. Remember: the spices with a higher heat index (i.e. chili powder or cayenne pepper) are great ways to help speed up your metabolism without overloading on calories.
