Dental Sleep Medicine Testimonials
"I see patients every day with sleep apnea symptoms - snoring, excessive daytime sleepiness, morning headaches, and high blood pressure. When the Academy of Sleep Medicine asked me to start routinely screening for this potentially life threatening condition I was excited with the prospect of being able to help people with sleep apnea, literally translated 'sleep suffocation.'
"My team and I went through intensive training and our office became certified to treat patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea with Oral Appliance Therapy.
"I knew that I snored, and my wife told me that she routinely had to wake me up to either stop snoring or to start breathing! I decided to become the practice's first dental sleep medicine patient. In addition to habitual snoring, I also was being treated for high blood pressure and relied on caffeine to recharge my batteries throughout the day.
"Within a couple of days my wife told me she slept great - I didn't wake her up with snoring or gasping! Not only do I feel better rested but my blood pressure has dropped down to near normal levels.
"Oral appliance therapy has been a great treatment for my sleep apnea. I look forward to helping more of my patients experience the life changing effects of this therapy!"
- Dr. Timothy J. Kitzmiller
"It's unbelievable! The first night I wore it my wife said there was absolute silence. She said I didn't even make a sound! It had been so long since I slept eight consecutive hours without waking up, and now I am! There is nothing invasive about the oral appliance--it makes it easy to go to sleep, fall asleep and stay asleep. It's amazing!

"The entire office staff provided friendly efficient service. Dr. Kitzmiller provided thorough information concerning the sleep apnea appliance and made adjustments on the appliance to maximize its effectiveness. The appliance has virtually eliminated snoring and gasping during my sleep periods. I am thoroughly pleased with the results which in the past (surgery and CPAP) have not been positive!"

"I think the Oral Appliance Device is an excellent method for treating my sleep apnea. Using the device is even better than the CPAP machine that I used previously. The CPAP had problems with the mask fitting and with it staying in position during sleep. It also only lasted 4-6 months and a new mask was required!"

"Thanks for having the binder discussing sleep apnea in the waiting room. Because of this information, I recognized the need to be evaluated. Also knowing about the oral appliance provided me with an alternative treatment to the CPAP machine. The oral appliance has helped me sleep better without any discomfort!"
-Pat D.
"CPAP was working fine for me. It became a nuisance when I needed to travel and I travel often. TAP was an equal substitution
for my CPAP but it far surpasses it in convenience and comfort in treating my sleep apnea!

"I actually went to a different doctor that had been recommended by the sleep disorder hospital where I had my sleep study done. There is no comparison to the way I was treated there versus the way I am treated at Dr. Kitzmiller's office. The other place was not organized, the doctor was not very personable, and the dental appliance was archaic compared to mine. I could not be happier with the attention provided by Lori and
Dr. Kitzmiller. The device I have is very easy to use and maintain. It only took me about 5 minutes to learn how to use it, and it only took me a couple of days to get used to sleeping with it. This treatment has made a world of difference in how I sleep. About 90% of the time I wake up feeling much better, I can go all day without feeling tired, and I seem to have more energy. I do not snore at all any more. While at the hospital I had the opportunity to try the CPAP device. There is no way that device would have worked for me. I was not going to be able to sleep connected to a machine with hoses. I travel overnight sometimes for my work and this appliance is a snap to take along and use while away from home (try that with CPAP!)

"I would like to thank Dr. Timothy Kitzmiller and his treatment coordinator Lori for all their knowledge and experience that they have shared with others and me in dealing with sleep apnea. I was a little reluctant when I first read about the TAP device in the office. But at my next dental visit I was still snoring, having trouble staying asleep, never waked up feeling rested, often took naps during the day, and had headaches. Dr. Kitzmiller and Lori answered all of my questions and set me up with an overnight sleep study. Afterwards, my results were reviewed with me and I understood why I felt like crap in the mornings and had to drink 2 cups of coffee just to get going. I had moderate/severe sleep apnea. A simple office visit with exam, xrays, impressions and measurements started the process and just 2 weeks later I got my appliance. After a few days, I started to feel like I had so much energy that it was scary. Not only did I feel like a million bucks I was dreaming again and my workouts at the gym were more intense. After the first 6-8 weeks, I think I lost 10 pounds and nothing in my diet changed. Dr. Kitzmiller did a follow up monitoring and my apnea index, oxygen saturation and REM sleep were at great levels! All in all I can say there is no more couch sleeping and complaints from my wife and daughter saying I kept them up with my snoring. This device has been a miracle for me and I would like to thank Dr. Timothy Kitzmiller and his wonderful staff for it. In my honest opinion the TAP device should be used for all people with a sleep apnea problem. I can now get just 4-6 hours of sleep and feel better than I did without the TAP when I would get 8 hours of sleep. Thank you Dr. Kitzmiller!

"Outstanding and immediate results! I haven't snored once since getting my oral appliance and my apnea has improved dramatically. It took very little time (a few nights) to get used to wearing the appliance and I haven't slept without it since the day I got it. It's simple and it works. Don't even bother with the other alternatives!"

"I can't thank you enough for making me aware of the TAP appliance (my wife thanks you even more). For the first time in years I am sleeping soundly and feeling healthier when I wake up and in turn have more energy. You literally saved my life because the CPAP machine was not working for me. Thanks again."

"I have been 'CPAP-less' since being fitted for my oral appliance. I enjoy a very restful night's sleep with minimal snoring. I also enjoy the ease that my oral appliance supports my personal and business travel. My wife also supports and endorses my oral appliance after 3+ years of CPAP in our bedroom!! Thank you for treating my sleep apnea with a simple, but effective oral appliance!!"

"I have had problems with sleep apnea for years. I did a sleep study and was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. I was fitted with a CPAP machine--it worked great when I was able to wear it, but I was pulling it off in the night because the pressure was really uncomfortable. Most nights my wife would go sleep in another bedroom because my snoring was keeping her awake.
"Dr. Tim is a friend of mine and a few months ago told me about how he felt great now that he had his snoring and sleep apnea under control. I was out of options and decided to try the oral appliance.
"After just a few days my wife said that she didn't hear me snoring! I now wake up with energy to go to the gym in the morning and overall just feel better! I couldn't believe the results of my at home monitoring sleep test when I reviewed them with Dr. Tim- I am spending twice as much time getting quality sleep, what little snoring I do is very quiet, and my nighttime 'suffocation' is minimal--I went from severe apnea levels down to barely mild! This is great stuff. Thanks, Doc!"

"CPAP became burdensome and uncomfortable due to how it 'rained'. This appliance is convenient and effective. It is so much easier to clean and pack for vacation!"
